Houston Police spokesman Victor Senties said the incident began with an argument between Steven Hancock and 29-year-old Delena Anderson Saturday morning. The argument awoke Anderson's brother who had been sleeping in another room with the pair's children. He saw Hancock assaulting his sister.
Hancock threatened him with an ice pick and pointed a pistol at him before fleeing. Anderson was taken to a hospital with stab wounds where she later died.
Senties said Hancock was found a short time later about a half mile away, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The case remained under investigation.
