Man accused in shooting deaths of girlfriend, her daughter on Christmas Eve

HOUSTON

Curtis James Adams, 44, is charged with capital murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm. He is also charged with indecency with a child from an unrelated case back in January 2012.

Police say at around 11:30am on December 24, Latasha Jones, 35, and her daughter, 13, were found deceased from gunshot wounds in their town home in the 7000 block of Jetty. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence. Investigators were told that Jones and Adams had a disturbance earlier in the day.

A preliminary investigation determined Adams took a pistol, shot Jones and her daughter, and then fled the scene with his 7-year-old son, who witnessed one of the murders. Adams then went to a relative's home.

Statements made by Adams caused family members to fear for the safety of Jones and when she could not be reached by phone, other family members went to her residence on Jetty and found both victims deceased.

Houston police say while at the relative's home, Adams threatened a family member with a pistol and Missouri City police officers were called to the scene. At that time, Adams was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm out of Fort Bend County. Police also recovered a pistol in Adams' possession.

Further investigation and evidence recovered identified Adams as the suspect in the Jetty incident, according to police.
