Authorities are searching for the man they say fatally shot a Pennsylvania police officer and wounded another in a shootout following a late-night traffic stop.

State police in southwestern Pennsylvania say Officer John David Dryer was fatally shot late Sunday night during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in East Washington. A second officer was also wounded.

Trooper Joseph Christy says police are searching for 58-year-old Eli Franklin Myers in connection with the shooting. Police surrounded his home in Webster, southeast of Pittsburgh, early Monday trying to serve a homicide warrant.

Christy says police don't know if Myers is in the home. They're asking anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact police.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the traffic stop.
