A local teenager is accused of setting a fire to vegetation on open-space land in northwest Harris County.

Jessica Brewer, 17, is charged with arson. Court documents state on November 7, investigators determined a fire in the woods near Grant Road and Canyon Rose Lane was intentionally set.

Harris Co. Sheriff's deputies say they responded to the scene and found Brewer and a juvenile male in the woods and small fire burning nearby. The deputy stated he detained the two teens and extinguished the fire.

Court documents say a witness who lives nearby saw Brewer and the juvenile male smoking in the woods, then igniting leaves and brush on fire with a lighter. The witness told police he photographed the two teens while waiting for the fire department.

According to authorities, Brewer told them she had been smoking marijuana and set fire to the woods. Investigators say Brewer told them she did it because "I like to light fires."

Bond has been set at $10,000 in this case.
