The initial call was about a baby who had stopped breathing. By the time officers arrived, he was dead.
Police took note of signs of abuse on the child and called in the criminal investigations division to thoroughly investigate the incident. Preliminary autopsy results came through Sunday and proved the infant's death was not natural.
According to officials, the baby boy suffered a broken neck. There was also evidence of previous injuries, indicating a history of abuse during the child's five-week lifespan.
The parents -- Jimmie Hood and Dennette Williams, both of Conroe -- were charged Monday with injury to a child. They were each being held Monday evening at Montgomery County Jail. An additional charge for failure to report a felony was also filed against Hood, police said.
