A fierce winter storm has shut down airports across the Northeast, creating a ripple effect in travel nightmares across the country. Houston has been impacted as well, bringing a little girl's birthday trip to a screeching halt. Paige Oswald was supposed to be spending her 12th birthday at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, with 15 other family members. Instead, the Omaha girl is passing time with her father, mother and two siblings in Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport for her special day.

The family's trip planned to include 16 family members, and the others all made it to the happiest place on Earth, but this family of five is the victim of air travel snarled by the holiday blizzard. The travel glitch is made all the more frustrating by the lack of snow in both Houston and Orlando.

Paige and her family are booked on a flight out of Houston at 8:30am Tuesday.
