Austin policeman stabbed, suspect fatally shot

AUSTIN, TX The Austin-American Statesman reports that the incident began late Thursday night after Officer Frank Wilson attempted to pull over a car that ran a stop sign.

The motorist then fled by foot through a north Austin neighborhood.

Assistant Police Chief David Carter says when Wilson caught the man, the two fought.

The suspect grabbed the officer's duty belt knife and stabbed him in the neck, Carter said.

Wilson then fired one round at the man.

Wilson was in stable condition at St. David's Round Rock Medical Center. He has worked for the Austin Police Department for almost six years.
