Man with history of repair wrongdoing convicted

GALVESTON, TX Prosecutors in Galveston say 43-year-old Matthew Kandl was sentenced to seven years in prison for felony theft. A Galveston couple who paid Kandl $1,800 to repair the roof of their Ike-damaged home said no work was done.

Prosecutor Lester Blizzard told a judge, who sentenced Kandl on Thursday, that "people who work the storm and kick you when your down, it's something you ought not do in Galveston County."

Blizzard says Kandl has six convictions of contracting without a license in Brevard County, Fla., after hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne, plus was convicted of grand theft.

Defense attorney Michael Palmer says Kandl is eligible for parole after serving 25 percent of his sentence.
