Brenham falls to Aledo in 4A state title game

AUSTIN, TX Gray had 32 carries, scoring on runs of 21, 25, 36 and 89 yards for the Bearcats, who improved to 15-1, winning their second state championship and first since a 1998 Class 3A title. Brenham finishes at 13-3 with its second runner-up finish in seven years.

Aledo scored first following a fumble recovery at the Brenham 24-yard line to set up the first Gray touchdown run. Aledo marched 45 yards on its next possession, with Gray racing 25 yards for his second score.

Brenham rallied on a 30-yard scoring pass from Ty Schlottmann to Terrell Reese set up on a 46-yard run by Troy Green. The Cubs recovered the ensuing onside kick and tied the score on a 4-yard scoring pass from Schlottmann to Emon Smith.

Aledo regained the lead when Gray capped a six play, 60-yard scoring drive with a 36-yard run with 9:52 left in the second quarter. The Bearcats led 21-14 at halftime.

Aledo quarterback Trey Ozee scored on a 26-yard fourth quarter run. Ozee finished with 78 yards rushing on nine carries and completed 3 of 6 passes for 42 yards.

Brenham's Ty Schlottmann completed scoring passes of 30 yards to Terrell Reese and 4 yards to Emon Smith for the Cubs in the first half. Schlottmann was knocked down and left the game for one play in the fourth quarter. Reserve quarterback Michael Burrow then fired a 33-yard scoring strike to Derek Edwards.

Gray capped the scoring with an 89-yard run with 1:36 left. Schlottmann completed 14 of 28 passes for 183 yards. Troy Green had 18 carries for 119 yards for Brenham.
