Texas has two types of specialty plates.
Nonprofit versions benefit charitable groups or causes. The others are by My Plates, a specialty license plate marketing vendor recently under contract with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
Texas in 1965 began issuing personalized license plates.
Specialty plates were introduced in 1990.
