HISD works to get dropouts back to class

September 8, 2009 6:19:35 AM PDT
HISD's effort to get dropouts back in school starts with calls to students' homes today and tomorrow. Dozens of volunteers will be a part of the phone bank. This helps the district gather data to map out homes of the students who will be visited during the 'Reach out to Dropouts' walk. Last year, 98 dropouts re-enrolled the same day as the event.

The walk takes place Saturday. Hundreds of trained volunteers will go door-to-door, encouraging teens to complete their high school education.
