Prison guard accused of killing wife

HUNTSVILLE, TX Samuel Randolph Vanparys was booked in the Walker County Jail with bond set at $2 million after the Thursday shooting of 27-year-old Ellen Marie Buffington at his Huntsville apartment.

The Huntsville Item reports that Vanparys and Buffington were both guards at the Byrd Unit prison until their separation about a year ago. Vanparys then transferred to the Ellis Unit prison.

Police Lt. Kevin Lunsford says Buffington was shot 10 to 15 times. Investigators suspect Vanparys lured Buffington to his apartment and killed her over a child-welfare investigation involving their 4-year-old daughter
