Traffic stop turns into bizarre chase

It all began on the Sam Houston Parkway eastbound at Blackhawk. Authorities say a Precinct 7 deputy was called to the scene where a woman was parked in the roadway. But when the deputy got out of his car, she allegedly attacked him and then stole his car.

That led to the chase, which went north on the East Belt and onto the East Freeway. Numerous law enforcement agencies followed the woman. That's where the incident got even worse. The female driver rear-ended a car near Wayside, which smashed into another car and an 18-wheeler.

"Once she got on this end of I-10, she just started... I don't know... She just hit several different vehicles and that was basically it," said Pamela Greenwood with the Harris County Precinct 7 Constable's Office. "There's no explanation for what she did."

In the first car the woman hit, three teenagers were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The woman police were chasing does have minor injuries. She was taken to the hospital, as well, and is in custody.

She will be tested for alcohol and drugs, which investigators believe may have been a factor.
