Driver dies after slamming van into tree

An upset driver was killed after he slammed his vehicle into a tree in northeast Harris County. Witnesses on Orleans near Cottontail say the driver of a red minivan was going at a high rate of speed without lights when he veered off the roadway and straight into a tree. Authorities did not find any signs that he was drinking.

"We don't have any odor of alcohol," said Sgt. S. Wolverton with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We have another person who saw him before the crash at a community center and said he seemed fine."

Investigators would not release much information, but they think the victim may have been distraught over a personal issue involving a relative.
