New anti-gang 'weed and seed' project

HOUSTON The target area runs from Bellaire to the north, Bissonnet to the south, Club Creek to the east, and Boone Road to the west. During the five year initiative, HPD will increase law enforcement and community policing and neighborhood restoration.

HPD Chief Harold Hurtt said, "But it needs to be stabilized, so that's where the other part of the seed concept comes in is that we'll concentrate on prevention intervention and confirmed involvement of the residents in the community."

The program will be funded with a million dollar grant from the Department of Justice.
