Deputy constable injured in shootout dies

HOUSTON Corporal Harry Thielepape, II, died overnight after being in the hospital for several weeks.

The deputy constable was working an off-duty security job at a north Harris County apartment January 27. He had arrested Jesus Reyna, and placed him in the back seat of his unmarked patrol car, when Reyna grabbed the deputy's gun and shot him.

The suspect was killed. Thielepape was wearing a bullet proof vest, but was seriously wounded. Thielepape underwent several surgeries. The constable's office says his heart was very weak and he never really recovered from the shooting.

Authorities will release the funeral arrangements once they are made.
