For the third time in the last four months, a teacher for the district is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.
"I can't say that there's more information to learn or not learn," said Spring ISD Assistant Superintendent Regina Curry. "And also what we're also trying to determine is if this is an isolated incident."
The latest situation involves Shannon Hrozek. On January 3, she was allegedly caught by an assistant principal having sex with a tenth grade male student. Reports say they were in her classroom with the lights off after school.
"With this particular situation at Westfield with this teacher, an employee reported something immediately, so we have to applaud that employee for letting someone know immediately," said Curry.
We went to the address Hrozek listed on court documents. She's charged with one count of sexual assault of a male student. She didn't answer the door.
"In this particular case, there were no red flags about this employee to cause us to think differently about hiring her," said Curry
School officials say despite this new case, they want parents to know their children are safe.
"We don't want to let a few situations overshadow the thousands of teachers we have working in Spring ISD who are dedicated, loyal and committed to doing their job and making a positive difference in the lives of our students," said Curry.
Hrozek, who has been with the district for around four years, is currently on administrative leave. She's out on a $50,000 bond after she was arrested Monday evening.
Hrozek is the third Spring ISD teacher in nearly four months to face charges related to sex with minors. Just last month, another Westfield teacher, Carlos Valencia, was charged with having sex with a student. And in October, Duett Middle School teacher Alison Mosbeck was charged with sexual assault of a child.
