HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Ready or not, hurricane season is here. The Atlantic hurricane season begins on Sunday.
Experts say it should be a relatively quiet season with only three to six hurricanes are predicted -- half of the average amount.
But, despite this report, President Obama says everyone still needs to keep their guards up and be prepared. He said at a briefing Friday at the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters, "As hurricane season begins, we have to remember that responding to a
hurricane is a team effort."
The U.S. has not seen a Category 3 or higher hurricane since October 2005 when Hurricane Wilma hit Florida.
In Houston, the city is readying residents ahead of this year's hurricane season. From 10am Saturday morning to 3pm Saturday afternoon, families can come out to the George R. Brown Convention Center to get some tips on how to prepare for those dangerous storms. They'll also get a chance to hear emergency management experts' latest plans on evacuations along the coast.
Also at the convention center - visitors will get the chance to meet our Eyewitness News Weather team. Chief meteorologist Tim Heller, along with meteorologists David Tillman and Travis Herzog, will all be at the workshop.
