Houston goes from oven to sauna as humidity increases this week

90-degree weather continues this week, feeling hotter by midweek
The 90-degree weather continues this week, and eventually it will feel much hotter as we add in tropical-like humidity midweek.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Our hot weather is going to start feeling more like a sauna than an oven as moisture levels rise throughout the week.

You'll feel the increase in humidity first thing in the morning Tuesday with low temperatures about 5 degrees warmer than they were on Monday morning. The smoky haze will return, too, but enough sun will poke through to warm temperatures back around 90. Factor in the humidity, and it will feel like it's 100 degrees or hotter.

What do I need to know about the rest of the week's weather?

The heat is going nowhere, and the humidity will only get worse. That will push low temperatures higher into the upper 70s by Wednesday morning, and the heat index will climb to 100 or above every single day. Those who know they'll be without power for an extended time need to consider finding a place to stay cool during this hot and steamy stretch of weather. We do have a small chance of thunderstorms returning north of Houston Wednesday Thursday evenings as a front pushes into the northern part of the state.

So how many 90-degree days can we expect?

As of right now we have high temperatures staying in the low 90s through Memorial Day weekend. While the heat may peak on the holiday, a pattern change occurring around then should being back clouds, higher rain chances, and lower highs in the upper 80s.

What is the outlook for Memorial Day?

It's possible we could go under a Heat Advisory on Memorial Day with a predicted high of 94 and a heat index of 107. There is a 20% chance of an afternoon downpour, and we're eyeing the possibility of severe weather over Central Texas that could make it into parts of Southeast Texas for the evening.
