HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Warnings have begun to pop up in the ABC13 viewing area as the potential for tornados and flooding is ongoing Thursday.

Here are the active warnings issued so far:

  • Tornado Warning: until 6:30 p.m. - east-central Waller and northwestern Harris counties
  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning: until 6:15 p.m. - northwestern Harris, southeastern Waller, southwestern Montgomery, northwestern Fort Bend, and southeastern Austin counties
  • Flash Flood Warning: until 7:30 p.m. - southeastern Polk County
  • Flash Flood Warning: until 7:15 p.m. - west-central Grimes County
  • Flash Flood Warning: until 7 p.m. - southwestern Polk, northern San Jacinto, and east-central Walker counties
  • Flash Flood Warning: until 6:45 p.m. - northeastern Grimes and southwestern Walker counties
  • Flash Flood Warning: until 6:15 p.m. - west-central Grimes County
  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning: until 6:15 p.m. - north-central Liberty and southeastern Polk counties

All of this is happening with a Tornado Watch in effect for most of southeast Texas on this ABC13 Weather Alert Day, and the threat of flash flooding is also increasing Thursday evening.

Tropical moisture is surging behind a warm front, and torrential downpours and street flooding are likely as it collides with the line of storms coming in from North Texas.

Due to the heavy rain potential, areas near and north of the Interstate 10 corridor have been placed on a Flood Watch until 7 a.m. Friday. Three to six inches of rain will be common in this flood watch area, with isolated spots seeing between six and 12 inches.

What is the risk of severe weather?

As of 2:45 p.m., Thursday, there is about a 30% chance you'll be near a storm with severe winds, a 15% for severe hail, and a 5% chance you'll be near a storm that could produce a tornado. The tornado threat will increase along the leading edge of the storms as the evening approaches.

When will the storms clear out?

Many locations north of I-10 should be storm-free by Friday morning. Still, an upper air disturbance could trigger one more round of scattered storms, especially south of I-10.

How is the weekend shaping up?

All things considered, it's looking like a great weekend for outdoor activities if you can survive the mosquito swarms! Morning lows will dip into the 60s on Saturday and Sunday, with afternoon highs in the low 90s. We'll get plenty of sunshine under a sunny to mostly sunny sky, and no rain is expected.
