HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Your fall wardrobe will finally be put to good use in the days ahead! Cooler air blows in behind a cold front, and the coldest air so far this season is on the way next week.

Temperatures Thursday morning will start off in the low-to-mid 50s, but it will feel even cooler with the north breeze at 10 to 15 mph. Even with a full day of sunshine, temperatures will only rebound into the mid 70s during the afternoon. This sunny, cool weather will continue through Friday with lows in the 40s and highs in the 70s.

Will this cool air stick around through the weekend?

Not for the entire weekend. Saturday's weather will be very similar to Thursday's with a low in the 50s and a high in the 70s. The Gulf breeze will blow steadily through the weekend, bringing back muggy air by Sunday morning when lows only dip into the mid-to-upper 60s. Sunday afternoon will be very warm again with high in the mid low-to-mid 80s. Both days should be dry, but there is a 10% chance for a stray shower late Sunday.

When is the stronger cold front coming next week, and how cold are we talking here?

Next week's cold front should blow in late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, and it could pack a punch with a line of thunderstorms blowing in along with it. After the front clears, temperatures will be on a steep downward trend for a few days. At this time, we expect our coldest afternoon to be on Thursday with highs only in the upper 50s, and we expect our coldest morning to be on Friday with lows ranging from the upper 30s to low 40s.

What are you tracking in the tropics?

The National Hurricane Center is now issuing forecasts for Tropical Depression 19 over the Caribbean. While we don't expect this to get anywhere Texas, it will threaten parts of Nicaragua and Honduras with life threatening flash floods and mudslides. Eventually it could get into the Gulf of Mexico and threaten Florida next week. Head to our daily Tropical Update page for a complete look at what we're tracking in the tropics.
