FRESNO, CA -- A California firefighter is being praised for saving a life while off-duty.
Fire engineer and paramedic Dameon Malek had just finished the End of the Trail half-marathon in downtown Visalia Saturday morning when he saw another race participant lying on the ground with no pulse and not breathing.
He jumped in to help ambulance personnel by performing CPR at the scene and on the trip to the hospital.
There's no update yet on the patient's condition.
Malek has been with the Visalia Fire Department since 2002 and a paramedic since 2005.
