Designed by architect Duncan Handler, the 12-bedroom house sits on 63 acres overlooking Seal Harbor on Maine's Mount Desert Island.
Stewart bought the home in 1997, which had previously been under the ownership of the Ford family, behind the iconic automobile company.
"I look at myself as the caretaker of an American treasure," Stewart told Architectural Digest.
