WHARTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Residents of a low-income apartment complex in Wharton say they're dealing with sweltering heat and spoiled food because their complex has been without power since Thursday evening.
Several people who live at Pecan Village Apartments, located in the 300 block of University Avenue, reached out to ABC13 in hopes of improving their living conditions.
"We need help," resident Tonie Allen said. "We're suffering."
Some people who live in the complex say they've been sleeping on cots in the lobby at night because that area of the building still has power.
There are other people, they told Eyewitness News, who are stuck upstairs because they're in wheelchairs with no access to a working elevator.
Debra Sabrsula said people living at Pecan Village haven't heard from management about when power could be restored.
"Please send us information," Sabrsula said. "Treat us like humans."
Eyewitness News asked a staff member inside the complex for any information on contacting the property's management company.
ABC13 left a message with someone on Monday afternoon after being provided a name and number, but haven't heard back yet.
"Whoever you are, come down here and take control of your building," Allen said.
Residents say their electricity bill is supposed to be included as part of their monthly rent.
Some residents told Eyewitness News they've heard the bill wasn't paid, but others said they believe it's due to a damaged piece of electrical equipment.
They also told ABC13 they were initially placed in a hotel, but were kicked out over the weekend.
