San Diego cops bust $100K Lego theft ring

SAN DIEGO, CA -- San Diego police took down an organized crime ring responsible for stealing $100,000 worth of merchandise, including Legos and Disney Frozen items.

Five people were in the ring that hit five San Diego-area Toys-R-Us stores at least 30 times since last December, detectives told ABC affiliate KGTV. Sometimes the crooks went in the same store more than once in the same day.

Surveillance video released to KGTV shows the group walking out of stores with shopping carts full of about $4,000 worth of toys and clothes each time.

"Primarily with Legos and Disney Frozen items," said one officer.

Police say the crooks would sometimes hit the same store multiple times in the same day. Toys R Us estimates it suffered about $100,000 worth of losses in all.

Police said the toys are in big demand on the black market, but police said they have yet to find items taken by the group online or at swap meets.

According to KGTV, three of the suspects have been arrested, a fourth is already in custody on an unrelated charge and a fifth suspect is on the run. The three in custody are 29-year-old Liliana Marquez, 26-year-old Juan Camacho and 21-year-old Elizabeth Bojorquez, pictured above.
