HARRIS COUNTY (KTRK) -- Thieves made off with a Bobcat mini excavator overnight from a sign business in northwest Harris County.
The break-in happened at "Brite Lite Signs" at 9901 Regal Row around 1:40am, according to business owner Joyce Sernec. She estimated the loss at more than $115,000.
"They knew exactly where to go, what to get, and how to get it," said Sernec. "I'm frustrated. I mean we work hard for our business and for our assets. To have someone just come through here and take that, I'm pretty upset about it. Get a job. We all do."
Security footage shows two dim figures cut open a fence and allow a truck to enter the property. Two other men enter through a back gate and hook up the Bobcat, positioned on a trailer, to the getaway truck. They drove off in under 10 minutes. Another car can be seen circling the front of "Brite Lite Signs."
"They need to move to another area of town because we're not going to move. Like I was telling the other guy, we're not moving," stressed Sernec. "We've been here for 10 years now. We're not just going to move because we start having theft. We are taking back this community and we're not going to have it again."
Sernec said she does not understand why someone would steal a Bobcat. She said you need a unique four digit code to operate the equipment. She identified the items stolen as a 2012 Bobcat E42 Mini Excavator and a 2012 AmeriTrail Gooseneck Trailer with the plate 14838L.
She believes the getaway truck is a 2010 to 2015 Silver Dodge Ram 3500.
Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
