Horse program provides financial support to children with cancer
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Children with cancer are finding an escape from the rigors of treatment through a horse program committed to putting smiles on their faces and helping with the financial costs linked to their care. The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show benefits sick children and their family members.
On Tuesday, Pin Oak's official Ambassadors of Love, Kay O'Conner's Therapy Ponies visited children at a Ronald McDonald House facility. The children had the chance to touch and take photos with Shetland ponies. The event gives kids with cancer a much-needed outlet to just be kids.
"The children enjoy it a lot," said O'Conner. "They get a lot out of it. It's very comforting."
It is also the kick-off event for the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is one of the leading charity horse shows in the nation. It has raised almost seven million dollars for children's charities since its inception.
This year, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show will be held through April 3, 2016 at the 80-acre Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy. There will be big horses and little ponies, hunters and jumpers, gaited horses, high-stepping horses, and cart horses; they'll all be there.
