Man killed in moped crash in southeast Houston, according to police department

Investigators said the moped driver lost control, hit the curb, and was ejected.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A moped driver was killed in a crash after losing control of the vehicle in southeast Houston on Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to the Houston Police Department, the moped's operator was travelling southbound in the 2200 block of Wayside Drive at about 3:30 p.m. when he lost control.

Police said the moped failed to stay in a single lane and struck the curb of a sidewalk when the operator was ejected. Authorities said that responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officials said the identity of the moped driver is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD said officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
