HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Discovery Green Park closed early on Saturday night, one week after Houston police responded to what they described as a "teen takeover."

The park closed at 8:30 p.m. this Saturday, earlier than its normal hours, after police said hundreds of teens packed the area last weekend.

A "teen takeover" is an event, often coordinated on social media, where large groups of teenagers flood a public place.

Houston police said 500 to 600 teenagers were gathered at Discovery Green last Saturday night, filling nearby streets and sidewalks. 100 officers responded to the scene, resulting in six juvenile arrests, police said.

One juvenile was charged with a weapons offense, and five others were arrested for trespassing, authorities said.

This Saturday, the area was much quieter, with Houston police at the scene working to keep the area clear.

Teen takeovers have become common in recent years, with similar gatherings reported at parks, street intersections, and shopping malls.

People who witnessed last week's takeover said they still have questions.
