With extension in hand, NFL Commissioner Goodell plans retirement in 2024

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is holding on to his job after agreeing to a contract extension this week.

The Goodell-era, however, has an expiration date.

In a Washington Post report, Goodell's latest contract with the league, which runs through 2024, will be his last. He will reportedly retire at the end of the accord. By that time, Goodell will be 65 and will have served in that capacity for nearly 18 years.

This week, team owners offered Goodell an incentive-laden extension that will pay him about $40 million a year.

Goodell is expected to work with team owners to find his successor by the time he steps down.
