HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston Texans star Whitney Mercilus and the WithMerci Foundation teamed up with award-winning chef Chris Shepherd of Underbelly to give back to children and families at Texas Children's Hospital.

On Wednesday, Mercilus and his foundation, WithMerci, served Thanksgiving meals to patients at the hospital.

"I started the WithMerci Foundation because I love working with children, and I've developed a passion to help families and underprivileged children with disabilities and special needs. This holiday season it is important that we remember that it is not the amount of time or money we give rather it is the outpouring of love portrayed in our giving," Mercilus said in a release. "It warms my heart to know that through our efforts these children and their families will enjoy a special Thanksgiving meal that they may have not otherwise received."

Mercilus, who suffered a season-ending injury last month, was joined by teammates Jon Weeks and Brennan Scarlett.
