Houston Astros officially AL West Champions

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston Astros defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-1 Sunday, meaning the team won a division title for the first time in 16 years.

This the first time the Astros have won the American League West title since moving to the division in 2013.

The Astros are the fourth team to punch their ticket to the MLB postseason in 2017.

The Astros were helped by a monster first half of the season that gave them at one point the best record in baseball.

Despite post-All Star break hiccups, Houston was able to clinch the AL West at more than 10 games up on their closest rival.

The Astros team store at Minute Maid Park will be open for 24 hours to sell champions gear.
