Former Texan David Carr finding success in TV, high school coaching

At 37, David Carr still looks like he could play some.

Carr is now an analyst at the NFL Network. It's been 14 years since the Texans took Carr with the first overall pick in the 2002 Draft.

Carr was the team's Quarterback for their first five years with some ups but mostly downs. Monday night, David's little brother Derek will lead the Raiders against the Texans, a team Derek watched and learned from growing up.

"I remember him breaking film down or we would go out practice field trying to out throw Tony Banks or Dave Ragone," Carr said.

The Carr name most likely kept Derek from becoming a Texan.

The Raiders took him with the 4th pick in the second round. Derek watched the 2012 draft with his brother and his dad at David's house.

"We're looking at it, Houston has first pick in second round I said, 'that would be interesting.' Derek said I want to do it. I want to go there. I was like, 'wait a minute, it's not like we ever won Super Bowls', but they never talked to him."

In addition to working for the NFL Network David also coaches High School Football in Bakersfield. His oldest son is now 16.

After leaving the Texans, David went on to play for the Panthers, Giants and 49ers, winning a Super Bowl ring with the Giants in 2011 as Eli Manning's backup. Despite his rocky times in Houston, David looks back with fond memories.

"Only regret I have: Bob McNair never got to raise a Super Bowl trophy," Carr said. "I love that guy and Janice, they were great. That guy deserves to win a Super bowl, deserves to have success for the city for what he's done for the city."
