Students and staff at Spillane Middle School raised more than $3,000 for the American Childhood Cancer Organization through "Gold Out" activities during the month of September to raise community awareness about childhood cancer.
Several CFISD and Spillane staff members came up with ideas to give students incentive to donate to the cause, generating a total of $3,279.71:
CFISD police officer Noel Garcia challenged the Spillane students to raise $100 during the seventh-grade lunch period, and they responded to the challenge - prompting Officer Garcia to allow academic achievement specialist Karen Mazzola and director of instruction Jamie Brotemarkle to spray his hair gold.
