Town's mayor pulled over on lawnmower

AYNOR, South Carolina (KTRK) -- The mayor of a South Carolina town is accused of fleeing police while holding a beer and riding a lawnmower.

John Gardener, the mayor of Aynor, was carrying a beer when he was stopped by officers last month, according to police video.

The mayor claims the beer was unopened.

Officer didn't arrest or cite him and instead drove him home.

Police officials said this will be a training opportunity for how officers should approach incidents.
