Lone Star Flight Museum hosts Houston fly over with 30 vintage planes

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Nearly 30 historic aircrafts were in the Houston skies and residents didn't have to go far to see them.

The "Fight to the Finish" flyover program was presented by the Lone Star Flight Museum and commemorated the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII.

• Depart Ellington Airport: 1:45 p.m.

• San Jacinto Monument: 2 p.m.

• University of Houston: 2:05 p.m. - 2:10 p.m.

• Downtown Houston: 2:07 p.m. - 2:13 p.m.

• Memorial Park: 2:09 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

• Acres Homes: 2:10 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

• National Cemetery: 2:12 p.m. - 2:20 p.m.

• Cypress: 2:16 p.m. - 2:25 p.m.

• Cinco Ranch: 2:25 p.m. - 2:35 p.m.

• Mission Bend: 2:30 p.m.- 2:40 p.m.

• Energy Corridor: 2:33 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

• Uptown/West U: 2:35 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

• Bellaire: 2:40 p.m. - 2:50 p.m.

• Missouri City: 2:45 p.m. - 2:55 p.m.

• Brookside Village: 2:45 p.m. - 3 p.m.

"The Fight to the Finish Flyover is an invitation for Houstonians to join in acknowledging the 75th anniversary of VE Day - Victory in Europe," said museum president and CEO Douglas H. Owens. "We encourage everyone to step outside and enjoy a moment of patriotic distraction and marvel at the rare WWII warbirds flying overhead, all from the safety of their own homes."

The flyover lasted just over an hour. The fleet included a B-25 'Devil Dog,' a P-51 Mustang, and a Grumman HU-16 Albatross, among others.

Organizers encouraged residents to watch the flight from their houses, as the Lone Star Flight Museum was closed to visitors and parking.

Kids can continue the fun after the event with coloring pages featuring drawings and fun facts about the planes.
