The holiday season is upon us and if you're looking for a journey through the North Pole with a mix of Texas flavor, you've found the perfect place.

From a life-sized gingerbread house to blocks-long display of Christmas decorations, what more could you ask for?

In its 40th year, residents in the Prestonwood Forest community, which is located off Tomball Parkway, will look to light up their homes for the annual 'Nite of Lites.' The holiday event starts on Saturday, Dec. 9 and runs through the end of the month.

What started out as one block decorating their homes with extravagant Christmas decorations has turned into a holiday-spirited competition with 786 homes participating.

"It's our neighborhood having an opportunity to share it with others," Mark White, with the community's Maintenance Association told ABC13.

A panel of independent judges will tour the neighborhood on Dec. 9 and determine awards in several categories. The individual home award categories are: best house, best all-around, best Door, best mailbox, and best lamp post. The group awards include best block and best cul-de-sac.

"We just want people to come and enjoy the holiday spirit," White added.

The 'Nite of Lites' is a free event.

Residents and guests are encouraged to vote for the "People's Choice Award" on the community's website through December.
