New law requires schools to hold recess for New Jersey students in kindergarten through 5th grade

NEW JERSEY -- New Jersey passed a new law requiring schools to give students at least 20 minutes of recess a day.

The measure impacts children between kindergarten and fifth grade.

It also mandates for the break to be held outside if possible.

Lawmakers attempted to pass the bill several years ago, but it was vetoed by Gov. Chris Christie in 2016.
