Attempted robbery
Police believe a masked man intended to rob an off duty HPD officer at a gas station

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An off-duty Houston police officer pulled out his weapon on a masked man overnight, according to authorities.

The situation unfolded at the Shell gas station on the southeast corner of Kirby and the Southwest Freeway around 4:00am this morning.

HPD investigators told Eyewitness News the officer in plain clothes went to make a transaction at the pay window. A masked man, wearing a bandanna over his face and hands behind his back, approached the officer.

Authorities said the man most likely wanted to rob the officer. However, he picked the wrong customer. The off-duty officer quickly called for help.

No shots were fired. The masked man was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge.
