Tips for safe driving in the snow and cold weather

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- If you're heading to work or school, you'll want to be careful as the roadways will be wet.

Here are some tips on how to stay safe on the roads:

• Be sure to leave some distance between you and other drivers.

• If you have to drive over bridges and overpasses, keep in mind that they could have ice on them.

• Check your thermometer inside your car. If it's 31 degrees or lower, the roads may have ice on them.

• Make sure your windshield wipers are working before hitting the road.

• And most importantly slow down.
