PASADENA, TX (KTRK) -- It's all about strawberries this weekend in Pasadena!
On Friday, dozens of special needs boys and girls from Pasadena ISD got to have a little bit of fun before the festival opened to the public. The kids enjoyed duck and pig races and even got to check out a huge strawberry shortcake!
The festival is trying for a world record, with this cake stretching nearly 2,100 square feet!
"It's much bigger than the last one," boasted Pasadena Strawberry Festival VP Murline Stanley. "It was 1,300 square feet. This one is 2,073 square feet. So it's a huge difference."
The enormous shortcake uses 5,593 pounds of yellow cake, 2,475 pounds of whipped icing, 5,340 pounds of strawberry glaze and 8,170 pounds of strawberries themselves!
The strawberry festival runs through Sunday at the Pasadena Fairgrounds. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids and seniors.
