Woman shot after employee believed she was involved in a burglary at a SE Houston business: Police

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman was shot in southeast Houston along the Gulf Freeway on Wednesday morning after an employee believed she was involved in a burglary at a business, police said.

According to HPD, a 51-year-old employee was notified about a burglary at a business at 4840 Gulf Freeway. When the employee arrived to the business, they told police they saw two vehicles outside and believed the people inside the vehicles were involved in the burglary.

The employee claims they then heard a gunshot. That employee then returned gunfire with his firearm, hitting a woman inside one of the vehicles.

Police said the woman was found injured down the street from the business. She was taken to the hospital.

According to HPD, the employee admitted to the shooting and is cooperating with law enforcement.

As for the burglary, police say that several items were stolen inside the business before the shooting happened. HPD said this is an ongoing investigation.
