Investigation underway after woman found dead with bruising inside NE Houston home, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department said it is waiting on autopsy results after a woman was found dead on Sunday morning in northeast Houston.

HPD said officers were called to conduct a welfare check at a home in the 2400 block of Sakowitz Street just before noon.

A New Hope Housing spokesperson confirmed the woman was found inside its facility at 2424 Sakowitz Street.

Once they arrived, HPD said the 37-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the home's entryway.

EMS personnel pronounced her dead after attempts to revive her, HPD said.

The woman reportedly had bruising and other marks on her neck.

Officials did not say whether anyone else was inside the home or whether there are any persons of interest at this time, as the investigation continues.

As of Monday evening, the medical examiner's office hasn't released the woman's name or cause of death.

New Hope Housing released a statement to ABC13:
