HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after crashing a car and causing the death of her passenger, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Late Wednesday evening, HCSO said the woman, identified as Yury Ramirez-Chavez, was reportedly traveling at high speeds in the 600 block of Century Plaza Drive.
Officials said Chavez's GMC lost control and kept driving in and out of lanes before hitting a concrete curb, spinning out, and causing the passenger, identified as Miguel Turrubiartes, to be ejected from the vehicle.
HCSO said the passenger, who officials said was Chavez's common-law husband, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Officials said that Turrubiartes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Chavez, showed signs of intoxication and was arrested at the scene.
The case remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
