HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A lane appears to have collapsed on Allen Genoa Road in southeast Houston, SkyEye13 images show.

SkyEye13 flew over the scene, located just south of Highway 225 near Pasadena on Tuesday morning, capturing images of the road collapse on the northbound lane on Allen Genoa at Steelman Street.

The images show that orange cones were placed to prevent motorists from driving over the damaged lane.

By Tuesday afternoon, the City of Houston confirmed public works crews are investigating and on scene.

The city said its asphalt team responded and discovered the area that needs repairs is too large for a steel plate. Officials said at least one Northbound Lane of Allen Genoa will remain closed as they investigate the cause and make repairs.

Neighbors and business owners in the area told ABC13 they first noticed the road start to cave in on Monday afternoon. City officials confirmed that's when they started receiving reports of the collapse.

By Tuesday afternoon, after ABC13 reached out to the city, public works crews started responding to the scene.

Public works said crews are now investigating the cause of the collapse as repairs remain underway. There's no word as to how long repairs may take right now.
