HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department said a homeowner caught a stranger in his backyard, then shot and killed him in northeast Houston.
Police said the homicide is being investigated in the 9600 block of Tidwell after they said the man was found dead alongside a ditch.
According to police, the man appears to have been a homeless and had been seen in a new subdivision along Tidwell near Balsam.
Police said the shooter first caught the man in a vacant house and tried to run him off. The second time, officers said the suspected shooter told them the man tried to attack him when he caught him in his backyard.
HPD said it will be up to the district attorney's office to determine whether the shooter will be charged.
