HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Neighbors are bringing up safety concerns after they say a tangled mass of wires and electronics appears to have been abandoned on the side of the road at Rowlett and Almeda Genoa in southeast Houston.
Neighbors said they can't pin down the exact day a utility box on the shoulder of Rowlett was destroyed.
"Honestly, it's been like this for months," Cheyenne Hines said.
They do remember noticing something had changed.
"The day before, I remember it was all intact, and then the next day it was completely gone, and I was just like, 'Whoa, what happened?'" Jaquelin Rojas said.
Those who spoke to Eyewitness News said they don't know what happened to it, but it does raise safety concerns.
"What if someone accidentally touched it, or when it was raining cause it was raining not that long ago, really hard, and what if an exposed wire came out?" Rojas said.
A wooden structure and tarp have been put up around the mass, but otherwise it's exposed to the elements and the public.
Residents said whether a safety issue or just an eyesore, they're disappointed it's been left in poor condition for this long.
"Let's keep our streets safe so our kids can be able to wake up, go to school, and make it home to us, parents. We worry about stuff like that," Hines said.
Throughout the wires are small yellow tags with the company name, AT&T. ABC13 reached out to AT&T and is waiting to hear back.
