Police search for suspect after man was shot inside Sunnyside convenience store

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after getting shot inside a corner store in the Sunnyside area on Friday night.

Investigators said the shooting happened at the Cullen Food Mart on Cullen Boulevard near Bellfort Avenue at around 11 p.m.

When officers arrived, they said they found the man with a gunshot wound to the head.

At this point, investigators said they don't know what led up to the shooting.

Houston police said detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence to determine what happened.

According to ABC13's Safety Tracker, there have been 13 homicides reported in Sunnyside and surrounding neighborhoods over the past 12 months.

The Cullen Food Mart has also been the scene of previous violence. In October, ABC13 was at the scene after police said two women who were fighting outside the store were struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.

As for Friday night's shooting, investigators said the suspect fled the scene, and no arrests have been made.
