SUGAR LAND, Texas (KTRK) -- The Sugar Land Police Department says officers have arrested a plastic surgeon for allegedly operating on a patient while intoxicated.
An indictment against Doctor Azul Jaffer says the procedure in question occurred on Aug. 12, but police say he wasn't arrested until Monday.
Both the procedure and arrest occurred at Jaffer's office in Brisbane Court, according to authorities.
The doctor's website says Jaffer is a plastic surgeon who delivers "unparalleled patient care," but the aforementioned indictment states Jaffer placed this unnamed patient at a "substantial risk of harm."
Sugar Land police told ABC13 they are not investigating any additional cases against Jaffer at this time.
ABC13 also asked police if Jaffer was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but the agency told us they couldn't provide that information at this moment.
The Texas Medical Board still shows Jaffer's license as active.
Eyewitness News has asked them if that will change in light of this arrest, but hasn't heard back from the agency.
The board's website states that, in addition to his practice on Brisbane Court, Jaffer also has privileges at four hospitals in the area.
One of them, Houston Methodist Sugar Land, told ABC13 that it suspended his privileges as a result of this investigation.
A spokesperson with the hospital added that Jaffer hadn't performed any surgeries there in "several years."
He is also shown to have privileges at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, indicating he is a private doctor not employed by their system, and at St. Luke's Health Sugar Land Hospital, indicating he hasn't been on their medical staff since last year.
The state also shows Jafeer has privileges at OakBend Medical Center, but that facility hasn't responded to ABC13's inquiry regarding this matter.
Jafeer is expected to make his initial appearance in front of a judge on Wednesday morning, according to a county official.
