HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced on Wednesday that the organization plans to create a landmark livestock and agricultural complex, set to welcome guests in 2029, according to the official website.

"For nearly a century, this organization has existed to support the students, exhibitors, and families who make this event possible," Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, said. " This represents the largest investment in Rodeo history and a profound commitment to the future of our event, educational opportunities, and agriculture. It's about honoring the trust families place in us when they bring their animals, their students, and their dreams to this show. We are investing in a facility that reflects the importance of that responsibility."

The organization says it will remain at NRG Arena, as it has for the last 65 years. The new complex is slated to support existing operations and reduce travel distances and wait times in busy areas during peak rodeo season, which would normally take place at NRG Arena.

According to the website, the new complex will host livestock and breeding shows, horse and archery competitions, commercial auctions, and educational contests, among other events. Some beloved shows will still remain at NRG Arena. The complex will also create a year-round space for agricultural, youth, and Western heritage programming.

During the off-season, the complex will host multiple galas, committee meetings, fundraisers, and auctions, organizers said.

Rodeo officials said that this complex has been years in the making and will be built along Highway 288.

Additional details will be shared by rodeo officials this fall, with a groundbreaking ceremony set for late 2026.
